Getting a puppy home is as thrilling an experience and seeing your baby walk for the first time, but there are a few things you need to deal with when you add this fur legged member to your family.

When you get an adult dog home, you can expect him to have learnt something from his previous owner but when you get a puppy in, it is most likely that you will have to have patience and teach him everything right from the scratch.

You will need to put in all your skills of house training a dog in addition to some extra care and patience as this little creature has not had any training as yet.

One of the first things you need your little puppy to learn are mannerism including eliminating outside house.

First thing you need to do in this regard is that you can’t be harsh while potty training puppies. You can start with taking your puppy outside for a walk right after you have fed him and make sure you stay out till he lets it out.

Wake him up at the same time every day and make him potty at the same place. This will transform into a habit after a while.

Make him eat food that leads to solid stools during his potty training, so that even if it does potty inside your house, cleaning is not a huge problem.

Appreciate him when he comes in after having relieved himself outside the house. You can also try bribing him with things that he likes after he starts going out for potty and deny them when he does not.

This will make him think that doing potty outside the house is a better thing.

You should also make sure that you leave him in a crate or within dog gates when you are not watching over, so that he learns that he can’t relieve himself anywhere in the house.

However, if none of these techniques help you with potty training your puppy, you should opt for a professional help at home or take your puppy to puppy training classes.
