Potty training also helps your puppy to develop hygienic habits and makes sure that he can differentiate between places he can use as his toilet and places he cannot.

However, you would not want to disturbed at night because your puppy wants to relieve himself.

There are a few things you can do to ensure that your little pet does not wake you up in the middle of the night.

Firstly, you should make sure to feed him well before you put him off to sleep. This will ensure that he relieves himself sometime before sleeping.

Secondly, you should also make it a habit to take your puppy out for a long walk before going off to sleep, so that it can shit and not bother your sleep.

Thirdly, if your puppy decides to poop at night, you can always make a dog gate in your backyard gate. However, you need to make sure that you have designated a place in your backyard for your dog to relieve himself.

However, if you can’t get your puppy to follow any of the above mentioned steps, you can opt for putting a plastic sheet or a paper sheet next to his crate.

This will not only help his relieve himself in the oddest of hours but also let you enjoy your sleep without being disturbed by your whining puppy.

However, you will need to make sure that your puppy does not start using any and every place around his crate as his toilet.

Last but not the least, if none of these work, you can change your habit into one where you get up once at night and take your puppy out into the backyard for taking a shit.

This might not be very difficult for a lot of people as they anyways get up once in the night for having water or relieving themselves.

Though, this should be used only as last resort as this will prevent your puppy from having a good night sleep.
